Given that the sun no longer occupies the sign of the zodiac that corresponds to the time of year, due to the precession of the equinoxes. In astrology, why is the sun's influence on us exempt from zodiac whereas other planets are not?
There are two types of astrologers: those whose calculations include precession and the more "traditional" astrologers who still use the primitive pre-precession calendar. As you point out, the two types of horoscopes differ by a whole sun-sign nowadays. Apparently there are serious debates in the "astrological community" about which type of horoscope is more accurate, but they have a difficult time developing standards for measuring accuracy, and both groups claim their method is correct.
Which just goes to show how nonsensical it all is.
This debate within astrology goes back two millenia, to a time when the reality of precession was still questionable, and the correct value for the rate of precession was a well-guarded trade secret. It is thought that the "666 number of the beast" appearing in the Bible refers to the rate of precession, and that early Christian astrologers calculated that the Christian era would be the "Age of Pisces" (hence, christian fish symbol) and end with the beginning of the "Age of Aquarius" (which we are entering now, give or take a couple centuries).

Well, that is exactly one of the reasons why astrology is not a science: it doesn't take into account all the facts.
Other such anomalies are:
- The position of the planets in the zodiac also uses the positions of 2,000 years ago.
- There are 13 constellations in the ecliptic, not 12 as astrology wants to have it. The 13th is Ophiuchus.
- The constellations don't have equal width
- Astrology added Uranus, Neptune *and* Pluto as planets. In astrology, why is the sun's influence on us exempt from zodiac whereas other planets are not?
The positions of the Sun and the planets have no influence on your life at all. To think otherwise is to believe in superstitious nonsense that has been proven false time and time again.
If that's not the kind of answer you're looking for, please find a more appropriate category for your question. This is the Astronomy section, which is concerned with science, not superstition.
Let me give you a bit of heart-felt advice. Please don't base important decisions in your life on astrology. Look at your options, and make your decision based on factual information and what feels right to you, not on the hocus-pocus that some charlatan dreams up based on the supposed positions of the planets. In astrology, why is the sun's influence on us exempt from zodiac whereas other planets are not?
You are one more person who doesn't understand the difference between Astronomy and astrology.
Astronomy is the REAL science which studies outer space and celestial objects in outer space. The people here in the Astronomy category are concerned with REAL science and facts.
Astrology is a collection of made-up stories, fabricated for the purpose of monetary gain, by telling people things that they want to hear and then making them pay for the pretty words.
The position of any celestial objects in the night skies at the time of a person's birth has absolutely no impact on the life of an individual, events in the life of an individual, or prediction of how an individual will live his/her life.
If you wish to continue with this fictitious fantasy, please post your question in the proper category of ENTERTAINMENT with the sub category of horoscopes.
The "Astrology" section, for obvious reasons, can be found under "Entertainment".
I looked up the definition of Astrology. It said, "The art of parting the foolish from their loot."
Astrology? Astrology!? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' ASTROLOGY!!!!
