Anyone know who killed the Black Dahlia ?Will we ever find out who Jack The Ripper or The Zodiac really were?
Probably not. It's the intrigue in not knowing who committed these crimes that holds our interest. If the killers were to be proven beyond a doubt, then the mystique of these cases will wane over time. I kinda like it the way it is as it makes for good discussion and questions.
HOWEVER, a recent show on the Discovery Channel made a good case that Jack the Ripper was a crazed man named James Kelly. Kelly had been a suspect but the London Police gave up on him after they could not find him in his home. He was never pursued as he should have been, i.e., bad police work.
The program 鈥楯ack the Ripper in America鈥?aired (12/3/2009) on the Discovery channel. A detective handled it as a cold case. It was very convincing, and although circumstantial, the person the detective 鈥榝ingered鈥?was James Kelly, a crazed man who killed his wife and escaped from a mental institution shortly before the murder spree started in London. He traced him to the very ship that arrived in New York City shortly before the murder spree started there. James Kelly also traveled widely in the US and everywhere he went, there were similar grotesque murders of prostitutes while he was in those cities.
James Kelly was an upholster by trade. Upholsters in those days used knives to 鈥榮kin鈥?old chairs. He had an array of knives he always kept razor sharp.

Probably not. I suppose it is not impossible to find out who the Zodiac killer was, since that was within the last 40 years or so. There is a possibility he went to jail for something else, and is possibly either in prison or has died. As for Jack the Ripper, since detective work as we know it was just in it's infancy, I don't know that we will ever know because I don't even know what evidence still exists.
I know very little about the "Black Dahlia", I think there is some evidence of who may have killed her, I think one theory is some doctor. I saw something on "Dateline" or "48 Hours" about that killing but don't remember details.Will we ever find out who Jack The Ripper or The Zodiac really were?
See "Portrait of a Killer - Jack the Ripper -- case closed" by Patricia Cornell. According to her investigation she believes it was Walter Sickert. He resembled the artist sketch of the attacker. He was an actor and had access to theatrical makeup etc.... I read this book myself and I think she's right.
AS for the Zodiac killer..... the case is unsolved to date. There were some suspects, but DNA later ruled them out.
We don't even know who killed Jack Kennedy!
Many theories have been formed about the Ripper, some even citing a royal family member. As for Elizabeth Short, aka Black Dahlia, James Ellroy (LA Confidential, Hollywoodland, etc) thinks that she was killed as a warning to Johnny Stompanado to keep quiet about a famous jewel robbery in which he took part.
